Cabbies Love Of Sport Boosts London’s Chance of Olympics.

Taxis drivers - renowned for their love and knowledge of sport - can use this as a topic of conversation with passengers on a daily basis, who will hopefully warm to this universally loved topic and support London’s bid for The Olympic Games, as the outcome of the bid draws closer.

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has encouraged every taxi driver to give the bid his/her full support, declaring that he believes London’s Taxi drivers are ‘one of the City’s biggest assets.’

Taxi trade support can provide a major boost to London’s chance of success. Cab drivers talk to a lot of influential people, and are – albeit unwittingly - bigger opinion-formers than they know. It is for this reason that recently demutualised Radio Taxis has thrown its weight solidly behind the bid, believing that its drivers and the rest of the industry can be ‘a part of the Olympics’ by helping to bring the prestigious event to London in seven years’ time, that will bring immense economic benefits and restore London’s image as an exciting city.

Radio Taxis cabbies can help to rally support behind the bid and boost the message to the public at large, to Londoners and to tourists and business visitors alike. Drivers can encourage passengers to get involved and support the bid by asking them to e-mail or text their support.
London’s world-famous ‘black’ taxis produced by London Taxis International, have demonstrated support for the bid by producing a number of special edition ‘Back the bid in 2012’ branded cabs.
Hard to miss the colourful, eye-catching cabs can be seen on London’s streets, impressively featuring the Olympic colours alongside the bold ‘London 2012 Candidate City’ logo, ensuring a high profile visibility for the bid.
London’s world-famous taxis are instantly recognisable as symbols of service excellence, and are trusted as icons of the best taxi industry in the world. London’s taxi drivers are envied the world over for their professionalism. The opinions and – sometimes outspoken - views of London taxi drivers are highly valued too. They are unquestionably ‘ambassadors for London.’

Radio taxis Chairman Geoffrey Riesel told London Taxi Times: ‘We want the Olympic Committee’s decision in July to favour London’s bid for 2012. We need the Games, and so we appreciate the support from our own Radio Taxis drivers as well as that from LTI.  We urge every taxi driver in London to make it happen, and to back the bid!’
